Legal Assistant – Abuse Law (Darwin)

About the role

Maurice Blackburn is seeking a motivated Legal Assistant to join its Abuse Law team in Darwin on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. You will support a diverse caseload of abuse law matters, providing essential administrative and client‑service functions in a fast‑paced, compassionate environment.

Key responsibilities

• Answer incoming client enquiries, assist or transfer calls as appropriate.
• Provide timely, accurate updates to clients and manage expectations.
• Administer client files from opening to closure, including correspondence and billing.
• Liaise with courts, barristers, opposing solicitors and medical professionals.
• Arrange diaries, appointments and meetings; handle incoming mail.
• Prepare client bills and perform general administrative tasks as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, preferably in a Personal Injuries or similar environment.
• Compassionate, resilient and able to handle sensitive matters.
• Strong organisational, time‑management and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
• High attention to detail and tactful communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
