Lead Ombudsman, Banking and Finance

About the role

Lead the Banking & Finance decision‑making function at AFCA, shaping outcomes for consumers and financial firms while influencing industry standards. You will report to the Deputy Chief Ombudsman and be accountable for fair, consistent, and timely resolution of complex disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic, technical and professional leadership to a high‑performing team of Ombudsmen and Adjudicators.
• Ensure complaints are resolved through fair, consistent and timely decisions across the Banking & Finance jurisdiction.
• Engage senior stakeholders across the financial services sector and contribute to organisational strategy.
• Drive new ways of working that enhance consistency, accountability and performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in banking and finance law, regulation or dispute resolution.
• Senior legal, regulatory or industry leadership experience (e.g., Partner, General Counsel, Senior Regulator).
• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop high‑performing teams.
• Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking and written communication skills.
