Lead Mechanical Designer

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Lead Mechanical Designer to join its Buildings and Places team in Adelaide (or Melbourne) on a hybrid basis. This senior technical position involves leading complex mechanical design solutions for major building, infrastructure and precinct projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design and delivery of complex mechanical systems on mid‑size to large projects.
• Provide technical leadership and innovative, efficient design outcomes.
• Apply model‑first, digitally enabled design approaches aligned with Aurecon’s Project Information Management standards.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineers, designers and advisors.
• Champion safe, sustainable and compliant design practices.
• Support project performance across quality, utilisation, margin and delivery.
• Mentor and guide designers and engineers, fostering capability development.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of digital workflows and design practices.
• Support strong client outcomes and long‑term relationships.

Required profile

• Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline (degree, diploma or trade).
• Proven experience delivering mechanical design in a consulting or project‑based environment.
• Strong capability with digital design tools, BIM and model‑based workflows.
• Experience on complex, multidisciplinary building or infrastructure projects.
• Solid understanding of safety, sustainability, compliance and design quality requirements.
• Ability to lead technical outcomes and influence others, with or without formal line management.
• Excellent collaboration, communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Commercial awareness and commitment to project and business performance.
