Lawyer – Support Survivors in Redress Schemes (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Knowmore is seeking a compassionate lawyer to provide legal information, advice and assistance to survivors of institutional child sexual abuse and Stolen Generations. This 12‑month fixed‑term position supports clients navigating the National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver trauma‑informed, culturally safe legal advice to clients considering or progressing redress applications.
• Collaborate with legal, social work, financial counselling and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander engagement teams to ensure holistic support.
• Assist clients in understanding their legal options, preparing documentation and making informed decisions.
• Maintain accurate case records while respecting confidentiality and survivor‑centred principles.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a strong commitment to social justice and survivor‑centred practice.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with clients experiencing trauma.
• Demonstrated empathy, cultural humility and sound judgement.

Required skills

• Legal research and advisory skills in redress, personal injury, human rights, administrative law or community legal services.
• Experience working with First Nations justice issues or trauma‑affected individuals is highly regarded.
