About the role
KCB is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its in‑house legal team, supporting complex infrastructure and environmental projects across Common Law jurisdictions. Reporting to the Director, Legal/General Counsel, you will provide governance, risk management and commercial advice throughout project lifecycles.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal support across pursuit, negotiation and delivery stages of construction and engineering projects in public and private markets.
- Draft, review and maintain client and subcontractor agreements, ensuring best‑practice standards.
- Manage claims and disputes in collaboration with insurers and external counsel.
- Develop and maintain contract templates and legal frameworks.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business units such as Power, Transportation, Mining, Environmental and Infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance and IMS teams to improve policies, processes and risk management.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB or JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practise law in Australia (or equivalent) with 5+ years post‑admission experience.
- Strong, pragmatic communication skills and ability to engage with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills with sound commercial judgment.
- Genuine interest in engineering, environmental and geoscience services.
Required skills
- Drafting and negotiating complex agreements within the EPC industry.
- Experience with dispute resolution proceedings or litigation.
- Familiarity with legislation in other common‑law jurisdictions (e.g., PNG, Canada, UK, Ireland, USA) is a plus.
