Lawyer or Associate – Complex Liabilities, Insurance & Regulation

About the role

MinterEllison is looking for a Lawyer or Associate (1-4 years PQE) to join its Complex Liabilities, Insurance and Regulation (CLIR) team in the Sydney office. You will report mainly to Partner Kemsley Brennan, Practice Group Leader for the Sydney office, and work alongside senior legal practitioners on insurance compliance advice and insurance dispute matters.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to front-end advisory issues on insurance compliance and manage a range of insurance dispute matters
• Manage a caseload of insurance litigation cases in the NSW Magistrates Court and NSW Supreme Court, and help with other civil litigation matters
• Assist the Partner in giving legal and strategic advice to insurers, private clients and government clients on insurance and dispute issues
• The role may involve some solicitor advocacy and briefing and instructing counsel on more complicated matters

Required profile

• Strong civil litigation experience, including acting for insurers (government, corporate self-insurers, general and reinsurance), private corporate clients and government clients
• 1-4 years' experience in private practice at a leading firm
• Experience appearing as a solicitor advocate, instructing counsel and attending settlement conferences
• Willingness to help grow the practice and build new client relationships
