Labourer – Civil Operations (Calen Depot)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Labourer to join the Civil Operations team at the Calen Depot, supporting the maintenance and construction of roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure for Mackay Regional Council.

Key responsibilities

• Operate rigid motor vehicles (up to 15 tonnes), small ride‑on equipment and light mechanical plant.
• Carry out earthworks, concrete, pipe‑laying, bitumen and vegetation tasks for road and drainage projects.
• Provide traffic management and control at work sites.
• Perform daily checks, basic repairs and maintenance on assigned plant and equipment.
• Use software tools to manage work orders, assign tasks and complete paperwork accurately.
• Deliver high‑quality service to internal and external stakeholders while supporting a safe work environment.
• Participate in on‑the‑job training and continuous skill development.

Required profile

• Current General Construction Safety ‘White’ Card.
• Current Queensland Manual Car (C) licence.
• Current Queensland Medium Rigid Truck (MR) licence or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Current Traffic Controllers accreditation (TCT & TMI) or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Experience in truck driving, ride‑on equipment operation and road/drainage construction and maintenance.
• Desirable: Certificate II in Civil Construction, experience with Assetic Asset Management Software, traffic control and bitumen work.
