Investment Manager

About the role

Airtree Ventures is seeking an Investment Manager to source and win early‑stage AI‑focused companies across Australia and New Zealand. This mid‑level role combines deal execution, AI tooling development, and portfolio support.

Key responsibilities

• Build and operate a sourcing engine for early‑stage AI startups in ANZ and selected global markets.
• Conduct investment‑committee‑level diligence, evaluating technical defensibility, data moats, competitive landscape, and founding teams.
• Write rigorous investment memos that clearly articulate risks and upside.
• Contribute to Airtree’s internal AI‑powered tools for sourcing signals, research, and portfolio monitoring.
• Support portfolio founders with AI adoption strategy and connect them to talent, customers, co‑investors, and advisors.

Required profile

• Demonstrated passion for investing and the startup ecosystem with a high‑agency mindset.
• Strong written communication and ability to produce clear, honest investment memos.
• Empathy for founders and a desire to add genuine value to their decisions.
• Deep interest in AI research, regularly reading papers and distinguishing signal from noise.
• Ability to build trust with both technical researchers and commercial founders.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience building or shipping AI‑powered products, tools, or prototypes.
• Familiarity with AI research literature and emerging model architectures.
