Intermediate Tax Accountant – Business Services & Tax

About the role

We are looking for an Intermediate Tax Accountant to join an Australian public practice specialising in business services and tax. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between graduate staff and senior accountants, handling complex compliance work while gaining exposure to advisory projects under the guidance of partners and managers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed income tax returns, financial statements and BAS/IAS for individuals, trusts, partnerships, companies and SMSFs.
• Assist managers in drafting tax planning memoranda and resolving complex issues such as Division 7A, CGT and FBT.
• Communicate directly with clients to answer queries, request documentation and maintain strong relationships.
• Review and mentor the work of junior and graduate accountants, supporting their on‑the‑job training.
• Onboard new clients and manage cloud‑based accounting files using Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks.
• Liaise with the ATO and ASIC, preparing and lodging documents, handling corporate registry changes and managing correspondence.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of Business Services or Tax experience in an Australian public practice.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Commerce.
• Active progress toward, or completion of, CA ANZ or CPA Australia qualification.
• Strong communication, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple client portfolios.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Australian taxation laws and accounting standards.
• Proficiency with cloud accounting platforms – Xero (certified preferred), MYOB and QuickBooks.
