In‑House Accountant & Bookkeeper – Publishing

About the role
We are seeking an experienced in‑house accountant and bookkeeper to join our global publishing team in Sydney. The role will manage the full finance function for a growing Australian publisher, supporting authors, distributors and internal stakeholders across multiple markets.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management reports – profit & loss, balance sheet and cash‑flow statements.
- Develop and maintain the annual budget and financial forecasts, monitoring performance against targets.
- Manage the MYOB accounting system, process transactions across several bank accounts and foreign currencies, and reconcile accounts.
- Lodge Business Activity Statements, reconcile ATO accounts and coordinate with external accountants for tax and year‑end reporting.
- Oversee supplier payments, issue customer invoices and chase outstanding debtor balances to protect cash flow.
- Process payroll, superannuation, leave records and ensure compliance with Fair Work and workers‑compensation requirements.
- Coordinate semi‑annual royalty payments and advances to authors, and support inventory accounting for warehouses in Australia, the UK and the US.
- Assist with foreign currency transactions, international sales reporting and finance queries related to publishing operations.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in accounting or bookkeeping within a medium‑sized business environment.
- Strong understanding of Australian tax obligations, BAS preparation and ATO compliance.
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating closely with senior leadership.
Required skills
- Proficiency with MYOB accounting software.
- Experience preparing BAS and managing payroll in Australia.
- Knowledge of royalty accounting and multi‑currency transaction handling.
