In-House Legal Counsel

About the role

You will act as a trusted advisor embedded within the business, helping to mitigate legal risk while enabling commercial objectives. The role combines legal expertise with strategic partnership, providing advice on compliance, contracts and risk management to executives and various departments.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the commercial and contractual disputes portfolio, including litigation strategy, court appearances, settlement negotiations and coordination with external counsel.
• Oversee debt collection activities and drive process improvements for dispute management and reporting.
• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a wide range of legal documents, providing pragmatic risk mitigation guidance.
• Identify and implement efficiencies in legal operations, manage matter tracking and reporting, and support legal technology initiatives.
• Monitor regulatory developments, provide actionable compliance advice, and maintain corporate governance policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience in a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
• Legal practising certificate and a JD, LLM or LLB degree; bar admission is a plus.
• Unrestricted right to work in Australia.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
