In-house Legal Counsel – Commercial Lawyer

About the role

Join a respected, award‑winning Australian insurance company as an In‑house Legal Counsel. Working within the Risk & Governance department, you will support the Head of Legal and Company Secretary while advising senior management on commercial and regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with the Head of Legal, Company Secretary and the wider Risk & Governance team.
• Advise business units and senior management on AFS licensing, legal documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Draft and prepare correspondence, submissions, papers and terms of new business contracts with third parties and suppliers.
• Liaise with auditors, lawyers, regulators and bodies such as APRA, ASIC, AFCA and OIAC.
• Contribute to projects, knowledge management and continuous improvement of legal workflows.

Required profile

• 3 to 5 years post‑qualification experience in general corporate/commercial law (in‑house or private practice).
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and initiative in problem‑solving.
• Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and balance competing priorities.
• Capability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
