Highways Design Manager – Technical Director

About the role

Lead the design and technical delivery of major highways and transport infrastructure programmes across South East Queensland. Provide strategic leadership, act as a trusted advisor to government and infrastructure partners, and shape the future of regional transport.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across major highways and transport infrastructure programmes throughout South East Queensland.
• Lead design management and technical delivery from planning and concept development through detailed design and construction support.
• Act as a trusted advisor to state and local government agencies and major delivery partners.
• Oversee project portfolios to ensure technical excellence, commercial performance and successful client outcomes.
• Drive business development, client engagement and strategic pursuits to strengthen AECOM's market position.
• Mentor and develop Design Managers, Project Managers and technical specialists across the Highways team.
• Collaborate with transportation leaders across Australia and New Zealand on integrated solutions.
• Champion innovation, digital delivery, quality and sustainability across projects.

Required profile

• 20+ years' experience delivering major highways, roads or transport infrastructure projects.
• Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on large‑scale programmes.
• Proven senior leadership experience (Technical Director, Design Director, Project Director, etc.).
• Strong relationships across the Queensland transport market, including TMR and local government.
• Demonstrated ability to secure, lead and deliver major projects while balancing technical, commercial and client objectives.
• Chartered Engineer status and relevant professional memberships highly regarded.
