Head of Corporate Affairs

About the role

Metro Trains Sydney is seeking a strategic Head of Corporate Affairs to lead its People, Culture and Corporate Affairs team. Reporting to the General Manager, you will shape and execute the organisation’s communication strategy, manage stakeholder relationships and ensure brand consistency across all channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the corporate communication strategy aligned with contractual obligations, the MTS Plan and the Stakeholder & Community Involvement plan.
• Lead internal and external communications, including media relations, government and stakeholder engagement, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and the planning and delivery of customer and community events.
• Oversee corporate events, speaking platforms and conferences, ensuring best‑practice delivery for key stakeholders.
• Manage the 24/7 on‑call communications and media function, participating in the on‑call roster to provide incident communications during crises.
• Direct crisis communication efforts to protect the organisation’s reputation.
• Monitor, report and analyse media coverage and stakeholder sentiment, briefing senior leadership and shareholders on emerging issues.
• Ensure brand compliance across all touchpoints and guide the creation of branded content, including website and collateral.

Required profile

• Dynamic communications or media professional with extensive experience in complex infrastructure or government environments.
• Proven ability to develop and implement corporate affairs and communication strategies.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills with a track record of managing media and crisis situations.
• Transport sector experience is preferred.
