Head of Communications and Engagement, Mental Health and Ageing

About the role

The Head of Communications and Engagement – Mental Health and Ageing reports to the Director of Communications & Engagement and is a key member of the Communications and Engagement Branch leadership team. This senior role leads a specialist team to develop audience‑led communications and engagement that support the reform and delivery of Victoria’s health and wellbeing system.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of communications and engagement specialists, guiding strategy, implementation and evaluation across multiple channels.
• Collaborate with senior leaders across the branch and other departments to ensure integrated, aligned communications that reflect the department’s brand and values.
• Foster strong relationships with executive stakeholders, external partners, ministerial offices and key community groups.
• Provide strategic advice to C‑suite executives and support high‑priority, large‑scale communication campaigns, including out‑of‑hours emergency rosters.
• Ensure communications and engagement activities are audience‑focused and deliver measurable insights.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification or substantial expertise in marketing, communications, media, journalism or business administration.
• Demonstrated experience in people management, including managing change and performance issues.
• Proven track record in developing and implementing communications strategies in complex, multichannel environments.
• Experience delivering engagement advice, initiatives and evaluating their impact.
• Strong understanding of the public service, health sector and government operations.
