Government Affairs & Public Policy Manager

About the role

Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team is seeking a senior manager to shape and execute Australia‑wide public affairs strategy. The role will be based in either Sydney or Canberra and will work closely with product, legal and communications teams to influence policy that affects the internet and emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead end‑to‑end advocacy campaigns on high‑priority policy programs across Australia.
• Collaborate with marketing, communications and cross‑functional partners to amplify Google’s policy positions.
• Provide data‑driven insights that align local Australian priorities with Google’s global strategic investments.
• Monitor the evolving tech regulatory landscape and anticipate future policy impacts.
• Build and maintain relationships with key opinion formers, academics, industry councils and government officials.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in public affairs, government relations or policy advocacy.
• Deep knowledge of Australian digital economic policy and the tech regulatory environment.
• Proven ability to manage fast‑moving, high‑stakes programs and translate research into compelling visual content.
• Strong network of stakeholders across government, academia and industry.
