Fleet Design Engineer

About the role

The Fleet Design Engineer supports the development and modification of rescue vehicle fleet designs for a community‑focused emergency service. Reporting to the Senior Fleet Design and Technical Lead, the role ensures designs are technically sound, compliant, and meet operational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new fleet designs and amend existing designs to address build issues, performance, or safety findings.
• Conduct corrective actions and ensure designs comply with legislative, regulatory and industry standards.
• Produce and maintain quality‑assurance documentation and perform QA inspections for design verification.
• Manage design version control and distribute approved documentation to the Rescue Vehicle Build Panel.
• Support consistent and compliant fleet builds, including occasional travel and work outside normal hours.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering qualification with experience in vehicle or fleet design.
• Understanding of applicable legislative, regulatory and industry requirements for emergency service vehicles.
• Ability to work collaboratively with technical leads, build panels and external stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel, including overnight stays, and to work flexible hours as needed.
