Fire Systems Technician (Permanent)

About the role

We are seeking a Fire Systems Technician to join Downer’s permanent team at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville. The role supports the Property and Asset Services contract, delivering corrective maintenance for fire protection systems across Defence bases.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to corrective maintenance work orders and unplanned fire system faults within contract‑specified response times.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and diagnosis using manuals, standards and asset history.
• Carry out rectification work, including repair or replacement of faulty fire system components.
• Implement make‑safe or temporary repairs when required and escalate major component replacements.
• Verify and test all maintenance actions to ensure compliance with Defence policies and relevant standards.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Fire Systems Testing and Inspection.
• Fire Protection Accreditation (FPAA) and a Queensland QBCC Fire Protection Licence.
• Australian citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
• Post‑trade experience in fire‑system fault diagnosis, corrective maintenance and repair.
• Proven ability to conduct root‑cause analysis, fault finding and compliance testing to restore systems to operational condition.
• Experience meeting response times for unplanned or reactive work orders.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes.
