Experienced Engineering Geologist

About the role

SMEC, part of the SJ Group, is looking for an Experienced Engineering Geologist to join its Geotech & Tunnels team in Sydney. The role applies technical expertise and project management skills across projects of varying complexity in a collaborative environment, covering analysis, design and project support.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engineering geology analysis and design tasks in line with technical standards and client requirements
• Plan and run projects of moderate complexity, ensuring quality and timely delivery
• Work with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to coordinate deliverables
• Prepare technical reports, documentation and proposals for small to medium projects
• Manage project scope, risks and competing priorities
• Support the commercial success of projects and the team
• Mentor junior team members where appropriate and build strong client relationships

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Geology
• Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering geology, ideally in an engineering consultancy
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information clearly
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, client-focused and able to manage expectations
• Independent, proactive, flexible and team-oriented, able to work under pressure

Required skills

• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards and specifications
• Experience preparing technical reports and proposals
• Project management principles
