Energy Market Analyst – Renewables

About the role

A leading infrastructure investor and developer is expanding its trading and analytics team with an Energy Market Analyst focused on renewable generation and storage assets in the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM). The role sits at the heart of commercial decision‑making, supporting traders and senior stakeholders with market insight and performance optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse spot price movements, dispatch outcomes and key market drivers.
• Investigate volatility events such as outages, renewable swings and transmission constraints.
• Translate complex market activity into clear, actionable insights for trading decisions.
• Monitor real‑time NEM fundamentals including demand, generation and interconnector flows.
• Identify emerging risks and opportunities for trading strategies.
• Assess asset performance relative to market conditions and pinpoint revenue capture drivers.
• Support development and improvement of short‑term forecasts (price, demand, renewables).
• Contribute to modelling frameworks used by trading and investment teams.
• Produce regular performance and market reports for internal stakeholders.
• Build dashboards and analytical tools to enhance market visibility.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in the Australian electricity market (consultancy, market body or industry).
• Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
• Commercially minded and eager to progress into a trading role.
• Confident communicator.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python for data analysis.
• Proficiency in SQL for data analysis.
