EL2 Director, Housing Australia Future Fund Unit

About the role

The Treasury is looking for an EL2 Director to lead the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) unit. This senior position will shape and deliver the Government’s commitment to create 40,000 new social and affordable homes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and oversee HAFF Social and Affordable Housing Senior Debt programmes.
• Develop intergovernmental funding architecture and Federation Funding Agreements.
• Lead a delivery team of 8‑10 staff, providing mentorship and performance management.
• Advise the Minister for Housing on innovative financing and implementation options.
• Manage relationships with senior stakeholders across Commonwealth, state, territory, local government, First Nations partners and the financial sector.
• Communicate complex financial analyses and frameworks to diverse audiences.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in housing policy or program delivery within the Australian Government context.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities to navigate complex policy and financial issues.
• Proven capability to influence strategic direction of national housing policy.
• Demonstrated success in building partnerships with ministers, Housing Australia, state and territory governments, and community stakeholders.
• Established project management expertise to drive outcomes across a complex work programme.
