Director – Smartship Operations

About the role

Maritime Safety Queensland is looking for an experienced, commercially‑minded leader to head Smartship Australia. The Director will set strategic direction, drive performance and ensure long‑term sustainability of this specialised maritime training and simulation business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the overall performance and strategic planning of Smartship Australia.
• Oversee financial management, governance and risk frameworks.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with industry, government and key stakeholders.
• Develop and sustain a capable, future‑focused workforce.
• Ensure the service contributes to maritime safety, capability and broader port development outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in government, transport, defence, training or similar service‑delivery environments.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to manage complexity and deliver sustainable outcomes.
• Collaborative leadership style with confidence to set direction and support change.
