Digital SEO & Search Specialist

About the role

As a Digital SEO & Search Specialist at BIG W, you will shape and execute the organic search and GEO strategy to drive traffic and improve internal site search performance. You will act as the key connector between an external SEO agency and internal e‑commerce, technology, content and marketing teams, managing the technical roadmap, tuning relevance and leveraging AI tools to scale high‑quality product content.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the external SEO agency to monitor performance and identify growth opportunities.
• Identify technical SEO issues, create clear briefs for engineering, and ensure proper implementation.
• Use AI tools to generate and edit product content and buying guides while maintaining brand voice.
• Align SEO with trading trends, create search‑driven category pages and integrate SEO copy into the user experience.
• Maintain error‑free product data feeds optimized for Google and AI bots.
• Track year‑over‑year performance, competitor trends and share insights with paid SEM teams.
• Manage Algolia ranking formulas, index configurations, synonyms and rules to maximise search relevance and conversion.
• Utilise Algolia tools to promote seasonal, high‑margin or branded products within internal search results.

Required profile

• 5+ years of dedicated e‑commerce or technical SEO experience, preferably in retail.
• Proven ability to collaborate with and influence cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
• Experience managing complex technical roadmaps in an agile environment.
• Hands‑on experience with enterprise CMS platforms (AEM experience is a plus).
