Design Manager – Sports Infrastructure

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design teams on sports infrastructure projects in Brisbane. You will shape technical strategy, define client requirements and ensure integrated, high‑quality outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead large, multidisciplinary design teams across architecture, civils, structural, MEP, fire, security, acoustics and specialist consultants.
• Act as primary client interface, translating operational needs into technical briefs and managing scope changes.
• Develop front‑end design strategy, execution plans, risk registers and programme controls from concept to detailed design.
• Oversee programme, commercial and governance obligations, ensuring compliance with Defence standards and security protocols.
• Provide technical leadership, chair design reviews, resolve cross‑discipline conflicts and ensure buildability, safety and long‑term asset performance.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience with a strong technical grounding in Building Services Engineering.
• Proven delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects in defence, healthcare, aviation or sports infrastructure.
• Experience leading full design teams and acting as Design Manager/Consultant Representative.
• Strong understanding of programme control, commercial risk, technical governance and compliance frameworks.
• Australian citizenship required; prior defence clearance highly advantageous.
