About the role
Longton Blackwell is seeking an experienced Construction Lawyer / Associate with at least three years post‑qualification experience to join its Sydney team. The role offers broad exposure across the full project lifecycle, from contract drafting and negotiation to claims and dispute resolution, working with senior lawyers and principals on matters across New South Wales and other jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities
- Take carriage of construction matters from instruction through to completion.
- Draft, review and negotiate construction contracts, sub‑contracts, consultant appointments and related project documents, including Australian Standard and bespoke forms.
- Advise clients on contract administration, variations, extensions of time, delays, defects, notices, payment and termination.
- Handle security of payment matters, including payment claims, schedules and adjudication across Australian jurisdictions.
- Assist with construction claims and disputes through negotiation, mediation, adjudication and litigation.
- Provide advice on construction‑related issues in property, development and finance transactions.
- Develop and supervise paralegals and junior lawyers supporting your matters.
Required profile
- Admission as an Australian lawyer with a current NSW practising certificate (or eligibility).
- 3+ years PQE in construction law, either in private practice or in‑house.
- Proven ability to run matters independently with sound commercial and legal judgement.
- Strong research, drafting and analytical abilities, with excellent written and verbal communication.
- Collaborative approach and willingness to work with colleagues in other states.
