Conference & Events Manager

About the role

The Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport, a 315-room hotel near the Sydney Domestic Airport with 11 function rooms, is looking for a motivated, results-driven Conference and Events Manager to join its Conference & Events team. The role suits a hands-on professional who wants to move beyond an executive position and is open to working weekends when events are scheduled.

Key responsibilities

• Manage conference and events activity and service levels, including inquiries, proposals, contracts, record keeping, invoicing, payments and reporting.
• Convert inbound enquiries into confirmed events and follow up quotes and enquiries to grow business.
• Build long-term client relationships, run site inspections and handle sales and feedback correspondence with past clients.
• Research new markets, customer needs and industry trends, and assist the team in meeting sales targets while managing costs.
• Work with Marketing to create social events such as festive lunches, themed dining and high tea.
• Attend trade functions and promotions, keep up with competitors and report revenue against budget with accurate forecasting.
• Lead, coach and support a small team, and close accounts in a timely manner.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Events, Hospitality or a related field (desirable).
• 2-3 years of experience managing functions and events in the events or hospitality industry.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing large, complex events.
• Strong leadership, organisational and time-management skills, attention to detail and excellent written and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure and meet deadlines; availability for weekend events.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of the hospitality industry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Delphi Sales Force and Opera PMS knowledge is an advantage.
