Communications Officer – Public Information

About the role

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) is seeking a Communications Officer to support its Public Information team. In this fixed‑term, full‑time position you will help keep Western Australians informed during emergencies, ensuring clear and timely messages reach the community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies for public information initiatives.
• Produce accurate, timely warnings and updates for communities affected by disasters.
• Deliver workshops and training to strengthen DFES’s public information capability.
• Contribute to the enhancement of the State’s Emergency WA warning system.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate messaging.

Required profile

• Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid working visa for the contract period.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive, adaptable, and able to work under pressure during emergencies.
• Commitment to delivering clear, factual information to the public.
