Communications Advisor – Strategic Communications Support

About the role

The Communications Advisor provides strategic communication advice and support to technical and professional staff across the Program Management and Delivery (PMD) branch. This temporary position focuses on community engagement, media relations, issues management, public affairs and stakeholder relationship management for statewide projects.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate internal and external communications activities for statewide projects, delivering ongoing strategic advice to project managers and stakeholders.
• Develop, implement and monitor communication strategies, including risk assessment and issues management.
• Plan and manage key events such as displays, expos, award ceremonies, road shows, launches and media opportunities.
• Prepare a range of communications materials – ministerial briefings, correspondence, presentations, newsletters, flyers, media releases, display materials and speech notes.
• Provide training, advice and support to branch staff and consultants to enhance communication skills, accessibility and branding in line with departmental processes.
• Develop and enforce branch communication policies, procedures and activities that support PMD’s strategic objectives.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders on media and issues management.
• Strong understanding of community engagement, risk assessment and public affairs within a government context.
• Ability to produce high‑quality written communications for diverse audiences.
• Experience delivering training and guidance to improve communication capabilities.
