Job description
About the role
Adelaide University is seeking experienced, curious and passionate people to join its Semester 1 2027 Common Core Teaching Teams as casual Commons Workshop Facilitators. The Common Core is an interdisciplinary, industry-informed part of the university curriculum embedded in every year of undergraduate study, offering students opportunities to explore contemporary issues and develop curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, self-leadership and collaboration. Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, or hold the legal right to work in Australia for the term of appointment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead activity- and discussion-based workshops that promote participation, inquiry, collaboration and student-led learning.
- Foster a safe, respectful and welcoming space where diverse perspectives are valued and students feel confident contributing.
- Tailor approaches to different backgrounds, abilities, confidence levels and emerging student needs.
- Use questioning, discussion and real-world examples to help students analyse complex issues, evaluate evidence, navigate ambiguity and develop practical solutions.
- Support students through a 2-hour workshop after they have worked through course materials online; the course uses a non-graded pass model.
Required profile
- A postgraduate qualification (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master's or doctoral level) or equivalent professional expertise relevant to the course.
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a teaching team.
- Previous Common Core teaching experience is desirable but not essential.
- Registration on the Casual/Sessional Staff Register does not guarantee employment.
Required skills
- Willingness to use, or develop capability in, a range of digital tools that support student learning.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills for interactive, inclusive learning environments.
Applicants rank up to three preferred courses and submit a CV and a two-page cover letter by 6 December 2026. Onboarding is on 10 February 2027, with the semester starting in the week beginning 22 February 2027.
