Classroom Teacher – Mathematics Masterclasses for High‑Ability Students

About the role

The Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) is launching full‑day mathematics masterclasses for high‑ability Year 7 and 8 students across Victoria. The teacher will design curriculum, deliver approximately 17 masterclass days per year and help build the programme for future secondary delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Develop challenging mathematics masterclass curriculum and resources aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0.
• Plan and deliver full‑day masterclasses at CHES and regional venues, typically teaching around 30 students per day.
• Collaborate with CHES colleagues and the Department of Education to create resources that schools can use for their own masterclasses.
• Contribute to professional learning for High Ability Practice Leaders, modelling effective practice and supporting capacity building.
• Use student learning evidence and feedback to refine the programme and prepare for secondary VHAP delivery from 2028.

Required profile

• Qualified mathematics teacher with strong curriculum knowledge and experience teaching high‑ability students.
• Willingness to teach or learn VCE Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Investigations, Algorithmics or related VCE subjects.
• Ability to work collaboratively with CHES staff, school partners and travel to regional sites as required.

Required skills

• Expertise in mathematics curriculum design and pedagogical practices for high‑ability learners.
• Effective classroom management and ability to mentor/co‑coach other teachers.
