Classroom Teacher – English Masterclasses for High‑Ability Students

About the role

The Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) is launching full‑day English masterclasses for high‑ability Year 7 and 8 students across Victoria. The role involves developing curriculum, delivering approximately 17 masterclass days per year, and supporting the expansion of the program to secondary VHAP delivery from 2028.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver challenging English masterclass curriculum aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and Teaching and Learning Model 2.0.
• Teach full‑day masterclasses at CHES and regional venues, typically co‑teaching with another CHES teacher.
• Collaborate with CHES staff and the Department of Education to create resources for schools to run their own masterclasses.
• Contribute to professional learning for High Ability Practice Leaders and model effective teaching practice.
• Use student learning evidence and feedback to refine the program and prepare for secondary VHAP delivery.

Required profile

• Qualified English teacher with strong content knowledge and pedagogical practice for high‑ability learners.
• Willingness to teach VCE English Language and potentially other VCE subjects or enrichment electives.
• Ability to mentor and coach other teachers, and supervise student teachers.
• Experience using student data to inform instructional decisions.

• Proficiency in designing resources that support critical and creative thinking, interpretation, communication and collaboration.
