Backend Engineer (Payments)

About the role

EatClub is looking for a Backend Engineer to build and maintain the systems that power restaurant and diner experiences. You will work with Java on serverless AWS, designing APIs and delivering features end‑to‑end alongside product and frontend teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services in Java.
• Develop and maintain serverless REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Take features from idea to production, collaborating with product and frontend teammates.
• Improve performance, reliability and scalability of services.
• Debug technical issues, write automated tests and ensure code quality.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of commercial Java development experience.
• Strong understanding of software development principles.
• Full working rights in Australia.
• Proactive, product‑minded and collaborative attitude.

Required skills

• Java
• AWS serverless services (S3, AppSync, API Gateway, Lambda)
• REST and GraphQL APIs
• SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
• Performance tuning and debugging
