Associate Director, Business & Tax Advisory

About the role

KPMG is seeking an Associate Director to lead its Business and Tax Advisory practice within the Mid‑Market & Private team. Based in Melbourne or Brisbane, you will guide clients ranging from family groups and SMEs to high‑growth start‑ups and multinational subsidiaries, helping them navigate tax legislation and drive sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of tax and accounting solutions for a diverse client portfolio, including trusts, partnerships and international structures.
• Act as a trusted advisor, managing high‑value engagements from planning through delivery and presenting strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Oversee complex compliance and advisory work, ensuring technical excellence and commercial value.
• Drive strategic projects such as business restructuring, growth initiatives and transformation programmes.
• Collaborate across KPMG to provide integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.
• Identify business development opportunities and expand client relationships.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performance team, fostering an inclusive culture.
• Participate in resource planning, performance management and capability uplift.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience (Senior Manager or higher) in tax, accounting or business advisory.
• Strong client‑facing skills with a commercial mindset.
• Leadership presence with the ability to influence and inspire teams.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Commitment to mentoring and developing talent.
