Administration Officer - Critical Care Team

About the role

John Hunter Hospital, a major public teaching hospital serving Newcastle and the wider Hunter region, is recruiting an Administration Officer for its Critical Care team. Reporting to the Critical Care Administration Manager, you will support the day-to-day operations of the hospital and act as a key point of contact for patients, families and clinical staff, ensuring patient information is accurate and administrative processes run efficiently. The position is open to all but is targeted to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people under section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Key responsibilities

• Register patients and update patient details and records
• Manage telephone calls, enquiries and general administrative requests
• Support patient admissions, transfers and discharges
• Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, families and clinical staff
• Complete accurate data entry and maintain up-to-date records
• Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times

• Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a busy healthcare setting
• To be eligible for permanent employment, you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand passport; visa sponsorship is not available

The role is paid $37.27-$38.44 per hour plus super, with 38 hours per week, and includes a structured induction, training in hospital systems and administrative procedures, and ongoing support from experienced team members. Applications close on 3 November 2026.
