Activities Officer

About the role

Queensland Corrective Services is recruiting a full-time Activities Officer. The role focuses on supporting the rehabilitation of prisoners through work and activities, running recreational, sports, arts, crafts and hobby programs, and helping with case management and classification.

Key responsibilities

• Build productive relationships with staff, management, professionals, police and other agencies.
• Assist in the rehabilitation of prisoners by taking part in or overseeing their work or activities and contributing to case management.
• Identify prisoners at risk and advise relevant staff, and encourage participation in programs.
• Interact with prisoners, respond to their needs and report incidents and behaviour for sentence management.
• Take part in the reception, induction and discharge of prisoners, and assess needs while considering traditional cultural values.
• Prepare activity reports, maintain records, and provide estimates and reports of activity spending for budget purposes.
• Monitor security requirements, search prisoners, escort them internally and externally, and respond to emergencies and security breaches.
• Restrain and control non-compliant prisoners in line with policies and guidelines, and complete annual training in control and restraint.
• Complete ongoing training, including the Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial).
• Wear the QCS uniform and comply with all policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct.
• Design and run a comprehensive recreational, sports, arts, crafts and hobby program, and coordinate volunteers and part-time staff.
• Contribute to the classification and case planning of prisoners.
