Casual Event Safety Officer

About the role

VenuesWest is seeking casual Event Safety Officers to join its Venue Delivery team, reporting to the Technical Operations Coordinator. The officer supports the delivery of safe events by monitoring, reporting and giving guidance to workers involved in event activities such as bump-in and bump-out, and contributes to safety during events. The position is based mainly at Mount Claremont Perth High Performance Centre, with work across other locations including Arena Joondalup, HBF Park, WA Athletics Stadium and Midvale Speed Dome.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, report on and give guidance to workers involved in event activities, including bump-in and bump-out.
• Contribute to safety during events.
• Work varying hours depending on event needs, including outside normal hours, weekends and overnight shifts.

Required profile

• Certificate IV (or higher) in Workplace Health and Safety and a WA Construction Industry White Card; the card can be completed within one month of starting.
• Experience delivering safety services in event, sport, recreation, construction, hospitality or entertainment environments.
• Right to work in Australia for the duration of the contract and a National Police Clearance at the time of commencement; the appointee bears the cost of these requirements.

Required skills

• Contemporary understanding of WHS practices and risk management, including contractor and high-risk work oversight.
• Knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice and relevant standards.
• Ability to work autonomously, make informed safety decisions and intervene with authority when needed.
• Interpersonal and communication skills, including managing disputes, influencing stakeholders and directing stop-work actions.
• Ability to interpret risk controls, identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
