Technical Sales Engineer – Data Centre Thermal Solutions

About the role

Johnson Controls is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to act as the primary technical interface for data centre customers across the Pacific region, focusing on chilled water plants, precision cooling and advanced thermal management solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as trusted advisor on data centre cooling, including chillers, CRAH/CRAC and liquid cooling, supporting resilience, redundancy and energy efficiency goals.
• Lead design and architecture of chilled water systems, central plant, pumps, heat rejection and BMS integration, ensuring optimal PUE and lifecycle performance.
• Influence early‑stage cooling design, contribute to Basis of Design and position next‑gen cooling technologies.
• Own technical pricing strategy, develop bids, cost models and value propositions, and support commercial negotiations.
• Partner with Strategic Account Managers on major pursuits, providing technical narratives and performance insights.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in HVAC/chiller systems and thermal plant solutions, preferably in data centres.
• Proven track record in technical sales, bid management and pricing of complex engineered solutions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in matrixed, global organisations.

Required skills

• Chilled water system design and central plant architecture.
• Chiller selection and optimisation (air‑cooled, water‑cooled, free cooling).
• Cooling strategies for high‑density and hyperscale environments.
• BMS/controls integration for thermal optimisation.
• Cost modelling, value engineering and margin management.
• CRM pipeline management (Salesforce preferred).
