Tax Director – APAC (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position supports a leading international bank’s APAC operations during maternity cover. Based in Sydney with flexible office arrangements, the Tax Director will lead regional tax compliance and advisory activities across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage APAC tax compliance for direct and indirect taxes, including Australian, Singaporean, Japanese and Hong Kong obligations.
• Oversee tax reporting, returns, instalment payments, BAS, GST, FBT and statutory audit requirements.
• Provide strategic tax advice for business expansion, new products, cross‑border lending and capital‑markets activities.
• Collaborate with UK and Toronto tax teams to align global tax strategy, compliance standards and risk management.
• Maintain tax governance, controls, policies and procedures across the APAC region.

Required profile

• Australian CA and/or CTA qualification, or equivalent legal/accounting background.
• Minimum five years of industry tax experience, preferably within banking or multinational financial services.
• Strong knowledge of Australian tax law, including GST and both direct and indirect taxes.
• Proven ability to manage cross‑border tax compliance and risk across complex jurisdictions.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
