Senior Electrical Engineer - Solar & BESS

About the role

An established renewable energy developer and asset owner is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Australian engineering team in Sydney. The role supports the safe, reliable and efficient operation of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) assets across Australia, working closely with Engineering, Operations & Maintenance, Project Delivery and Commercial teams. It is primarily operational engineering and O&M support, with additional involvement in project delivery, commissioning and development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist electrical engineering support for operational solar and BESS assets, helping plant managers, site technicians and control room operators resolve operational issues
• Investigate electrical faults, equipment failures and performance issues, and respond to incidents with technical recommendations
• Lead root cause investigations and troubleshoot solar equipment such as inverters, transformers and switchgear
• Manage equipment warranty claims and support minor O&M improvement projects
• Support high-voltage switching activities, prepare and review switching documentation, and investigate compliance matters with AEMO, network service providers and generator performance standards
• Analyse SCADA and performance data, calculate contractual plant availability, and update O&M procedures and operating manuals
• Contribute to new solar and BESS development, commissioning and project evaluations, and mentor junior engineers

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• At least 5 years of direct utility-scale solar plant operations and troubleshooting experience
• Experience with SCADA, electrical monitoring systems and power generation equipment
• Understanding of AEMO and NSP operational requirements
• Desirable: renewable energy developer, IPP or asset owner background, BESS exposure, experience with SMA or Ingeteam inverters, commissioning support, mentoring experience, and strong Excel and technical reporting skills
