Legal Counsel – Legal & Governance (12‑Month Fixed Term)

About the role

As a Legal Counsel in Aurecon’s Legal & Governance team, you will support project engagements, provide risk and governance advice, and deliver training on legal matters across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on Aurecon’s project engagements, including contract review, negotiation and dispute management.
• Provide legal, risk and governance advice to senior leadership and the broader business.
• Collaborate with client project teams and internal stakeholders across projects and enterprise functions.
• Deliver training on legal and governance matters to Aurecon employees.

Required profile

• Admission to practice law in NSW or Victoria with 6‑9 years post‑qualification experience, preferably a mix of private practice and in‑house roles.
• Broad experience in consultancy services, advisory or infrastructure engagements, M&A due diligence, transaction agreements, financial services compliance, and cyber, data and AI regulatory requirements.
• Ability to simplify complex issues and work with multiple stakeholders in a fast‑paced matrix organisation.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills with proven ability to manage competing priorities.
• Commercial and pragmatic approach with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
