Youth Development Coach - Risk-Response Bail Program
YFS Ltd. · Slacks Creek
Job description
About the role
A brand-new Risk-Response Bail Program is being established at YFS, and this is the chance to join it from the start. As a Youth Development Coach you will work alongside young people on bail and their families, giving intensive, practical and community-based support. You will help young people navigate challenges, understand what is expected of them and build stronger connections with family, culture, education, employment and the services around them. The role is permanent full-time in Slacks Creek, Queensland.
Key responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships with young people, identify their strengths, risks, needs and goals and develop individualised, realistic plans.
- Communicate with stakeholders, families and young people so they understand and meet their bail requirements.
- Provide intensive outreach and practical support, such as helping a young person attend appointments, navigate services, reconnect with education or employment or address issues affecting bail conditions.
- Work with families, kin and significant people in a young person's life to strengthen their support networks.
- Connect young people with the right supports and collaborate with Youth Justice, housing, health, education, alcohol and other drugs, disability, domestic and family violence, legal and cultural services.
- Monitor changing circumstances and risks, adjust support as needed and help young people move to longer-term services.
Required profile
- Experience working with young people with complex needs, especially those involved with youth justice, child protection or other statutory systems.
- Ability to build rapport with young people who may not initially trust or engage with services.
- Trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally safe approach; understanding that behaviour is only part of a young person's story.
- Comfortable working independently in the community while being part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Practical, resourceful and able to balance compassion with clear boundaries.
- Flexible hours, with early starts, later finishes and occasional weekend work, with make-up time available.
Applicants apply by submitting a resume and a one-page cover letter. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a phone interview followed by a panel interview. People from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, culturally diverse backgrounds and the LGBTIQA+ community are encouraged to apply.
