Youth Development Coach (Extended Post Care Support)

About the role

The Transition to Adulthood team at YFS supports young people preparing to leave care, moving from out of home care or navigating adulthood after their care experience. The Extended Post Care Support program is a Queensland Government initiative offering intensive, holistic support to young people up to age 21, alongside financial assistance for those living independently. This is a full-time maximum term position based in Slacks Creek, available until 30 June 2027 (possible extension depending on funding), with a pay of $105,909 per year and salary packaging exempt from fringe benefits tax.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver coaching and case management services and advocate for young people transitioning from out of home care.
• Work with Child Safety, the out of home care sector and community support services to support a positive transition to adulthood.
• Provide one-on-one coaching so young people can set goals, plan how to achieve them and overcome barriers.
• Offer practical support on housing, employment, mental health, general health and wellbeing.
• Help young people complete budgeting and planning to access available funding.
• Advise and refer foster carers who look after young people beyond age 18.

Required profile

• At least three years' experience working with young people and an understanding of the challenges of transitioning from out of home care; child protection experience is a bonus.
• Willingness to learn about social and community housing and private rental markets.
• Proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused, able to work independently and build relationships with professionals and stakeholders.
• Able to engage with young people from diverse backgrounds, including those with a history of complex trauma.
