Yard Site Manager – Metal Recycling

About the role

Sims Limited is seeking a Yard Site Manager to lead its Cairns metal recycling operation. This hands‑on position oversees daily scrap metal processing, truck loading and unloading, and ensures a safe, productive environment for a small team.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily yard activities, including metal sorting, production, and logistics.
• Manage and mentor a team of six employees, including weighbridge/admin staff and machine operators.
• Monitor stockpile volumes, recycling streams, and operational metrics to optimise efficiency.
• Champion a zero‑harm safety culture and ensure compliance with environmental and quality standards.
• Drive continuous improvement, team engagement and high‑level customer service.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, waste recycling or logistics.
• Strong scheduling, coordination and planning abilities.
• Proven ability to influence, build relationships and motivate teams.
• Experience with EHS management systems, project management and SAP (SAI is a plus).
• Technical knowledge of ferrous and non‑ferrous metal sorting is advantageous.
