Windows Systems Administrator

About the role

Newkey Consulting is recruiting a Windows Systems Administrator to join the IT team of an innovative technology and advanced manufacturing business in Melbourne. The role covers maintaining and supporting IT infrastructure, providing technical support to end users, helping with day-to-day network operations and troubleshooting, and keeping systems available, secure and performing well.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Windows desktops and Windows Server environments
• Manage user accounts, Active Directory, access permissions and file services, and administer Group Policy Objects
• Support system monitoring, server availability, Windows updates, patch management, backup monitoring, data recovery and disaster recovery
• Assist with network configuration and troubleshooting, Wi-Fi, VPNs and tools such as ping, ipconfig, tracert and nslookup; diagnose DNS and DHCP issues
• Provide day-to-day support for Windows, Microsoft Office, printers and business applications
• Follow security policies, help with antivirus monitoring, security updates and vulnerability remediation
• Maintain technical documentation, asset and incident records, and coordinate with vendors and other teams on complex issues

Required profile

• Diploma, degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology or a related field
• Strong problem-solving, communication and customer service skills, with good time management and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and willingness to learn new technologies

Required skills

• Experience supporting Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments
• Active Directory, Group Policy and user account management
• Network troubleshooting, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, subnetting, switches, routers, firewalls and VPNs
• File permissions, backups, patching and system monitoring
• Nice to have: Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Microsoft Entra ID, VMware or Hyper-V, PowerShell scripting, and CompTIA Network+ or Microsoft certifications
