Welding Inspector – Shutdown & Maintenance Projects

About the role

EnerMech is seeking experienced Welding Inspectors to support upcoming shutdown, turnaround and maintenance projects across major mining, mineral processing, port and industrial operations in the Gladstone region. You will ensure weld quality, fabrication compliance and adherence to client specifications throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct welding inspections on fixed plant, piping, pressure equipment and structural steel.
• Verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and relevant standards.
• Review weld maps, inspection reports, material traceability records and quality documentation.
• Coordinate and witness non‑destructive testing (NDT) activities and identify defects or non‑conformances.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and support continuous improvement initiatives on site.

Required profile

• Recognised Welding Inspector qualification (CSWIP 3.1, WTIA, AWS CWI or equivalent).
• Current Australian driver’s licence, White Card and full Australian working rights.
• Ability to pass pre‑employment medicals and drug & alcohol testing.
• Previous experience in mining, shutdowns, maintenance or heavy‑industrial environments.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of welding inspection techniques and industry standards (AS/NZS, ISO, relevant welding codes).
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures and technical specifications.
• Experience with NDT coordination and familiarity with QA/QC management systems.
• Mechanical or Boilermaker trade qualification (highly desirable).
