Waste Management Centre Plant Operator

About the role

The City of Hobart is recruiting a permanent, full-time Plant Operator for its Waste Management Centre at McRobies Gully. The role supports the delivery of the Waste Management Strategy 2015-2030 by keeping landfill and transfer station operations safe, efficient and cost-effective. It is paid under the Hobart City Council Enterprise Agreement 2024.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe and efficient landfill and transfer station operations, including organic recycling and resource recovery.
• Operate and maintain plant and equipment in line with manuals, procedures and standing instructions.
• Provide clear guidance to the public on waste disposal, recycling and resource recovery.
• Manage site traffic and inspect incoming vehicles for safety and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain a clean, compliant site following safety procedures and support team operations, including rostered weekend work.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Waste Management (CPP30719) or the ability to acquire it, plus a current Heavy Rigid Driver's Licence and White Card registration.
• Demonstrated experience operating small to medium plant such as loaders, excavators, compactors, tracked loaders and heavy rigid trucks.
• Ability to read, interpret and follow programs, procedures and manuals accurately.
• Proactive, reliable team member who adapts to changing priorities.
