Senior SCADA Engineer - Substation Automation

About the role

Megavar, a specialist high voltage engineering firm, is looking for a Senior SCADA Engineer to lead the design and commissioning of substation automation systems, from concept through to site handover, across a varied caseload of transmission and distribution projects. The role is based in Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle, with project travel across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, review and verify detailed designs and technical reports for substation automation systems, including IEC 61850 schemes.
• Deliver substation automation projects from concept through to commissioning.
• Own the technical integration of complex control and automation systems on new and existing plant.
• Coordinate directly with client SCADA representatives to align end-to-end displays and databases for commissioning.
• Contribute to tenders and support delivery on time and within budget.
• Undertake site inspections and prepare associated reporting.
• Liaise with clients and contractors on technical issues and problem resolution.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering.
• At least 5 years' experience in SCADA and controls (automation), able to deliver complete end-to-end solutions.
• Track record leading design and commissioning on complex upgrades of existing plant.
• Demonstrated leadership: influencing, motivating and delegating across project teams.

Required skills

• Experience with control system hardware and software from major vendors such as Citect, Foxboro, GE, SEL and Siemens.
• Familiarity with primary and secondary systems hardware and nomenclature in transmission and distribution substations.
• Detailed knowledge of SCADA system design, RTU and gateway configuration, PLC and HMI configuration, Ethernet switch and router configuration, and database systems.
