Volunteer Companion for Older People - Northern Beaches

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity that runs the government-funded Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme, is looking for volunteers across Sydney's Northern Beaches (including Manly, Dee Why, Brookvale, Narrabeen, Mona Vale, Newport, Avalon, Frenchs Forest, Belrose and surrounding suburbs). Volunteers spend about an hour each week or fortnight visiting older people living at home who may be lonely or socially isolated.

Key responsibilities

• Visit older people in their own homes within the local community, weekly or fortnightly, on the same day and time each visit
• Chat over a cup of tea, take a short walk, listen to music and share stories, look through photos and reminisce
• Provide regular friendship and social connection
• Visits are flexible between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Sunday

Required profile

• A minimum 6-month commitment
• Kind, reliable and patient, and enjoys spending time with others
• No special skills or experience required
• 18 years or older; a national volunteer police check is arranged and paid for by HammondCare
