Underground High Voltage Electrician - Africa

About the role

AUMS, part of the Perenti group, is a specialist underground contract mining services business operating across Africa. It is looking for an experienced Underground High Voltage Electrician for its African operations on a 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off roster. The role is hands-on and involves supervising and training national electrical personnel in high voltage preventative, scheduled and breakdown maintenance at the mine site.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled electrical servicing of 1000V, 11kV and 33kV equipment safely and in line with procedures, regulations and service sheets.
• Carry out all repairs according to AUMS procedures and complete service sheets, documenting additional repairs.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workshop and working areas.
• Read and interpret service and spare parts manuals, and advise electrical workshop supervisors on parts used and additional requirements.
• Train and mentor national electrical personnel to support a constructive team environment.
• Report equipment faults to the Electrical Foreman so they can be scheduled into the weekly maintenance plan.
• Monitor shift reports and schedule outstanding work from the previous shift.
• Monitor the availability of tools and test instruments given to national employees and carry out weekly inspections of tool bags.

Required profile

• Current unrestricted Australian electrical licence.
• Completed a high voltage switching course.
• Experience with Flygt pump repairs and maintenance, including overseeing rebuilds to keep spare pumps available.
• Experience with high voltage installations and testing, including inline joins and 11kV plug terminations.
• Supervisory and training experience is a must.
• Proactive attitude to safety and a driven work ethic.

Required skills

• Familiarity with AS NZS 3000:2018 electrical installations, AS NZS 3008.1.1:2025 cable selection and AS NZS 3017:2022 testing and inspection guidelines.
• High voltage installation and testing.

Pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and site-specific clearances, is required. A valid National Police Clearance, current manual driver's licence (an international driving permit will be needed if successful) and any necessary tickets or qualifications must be presented at interview.
