Training Area Range Operator

About the role

Service Stream is recruiting permanent full-time Training Area Range (TAR) Operators for its Defence division, based at Robertson Barracks. The role covers coordinating contractor activities, managing live fire target equipment and maintaining training areas. Applications are made through the online application form.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate contractor activities supporting TAR operations, including land management, housekeeping, cleaning, waste management and estate upkeep.
• Plan, deploy, test and recover live fire target equipment in consultation with Defence user units.
• Open and close danger area gates and flags in line with approved live firing schedules.
• Build, repair and maintain target equipment and manage consumable stock levels.
• Carry out inspections, audits, surveys and compliance activities required by contract.
• Maintain training areas and facilities to keep them ready for use.
• Manage inventory, stock control and storage.
• Safely operate chainsaws and perform minor infrastructure repairs.
• Drive vehicles in challenging off-road conditions and carry out vehicle recovery.
• Take part in deployments to Defence training and operational locations, including long periods away from home.

Required profile

• Experience planning, placing, testing and recovering range live fire target equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain target systems such as DART, MTR and SMR.
• Experience in inventory control, stock management and storage maintenance.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance.
• Range Officer Accreditation or relevant safety training is highly regarded.
